A New Start into 2026
Hi and welcome back to the blog!
It’s been a bit quiet around here lately, as I’ve been thinking about how to really flesh out these posts in a way that feels truthful to me; and like something that actually works for this blog.
I’ve been asking myself some questions, and as of January 2026, I’ve come to the following conclusions:
What is my blog trying to achieve?
From World to Plate’s goal, first and foremost, is to explore the world through its cuisine. Travel can be daunting, expensive, or otherwise difficult for many people.
Food, however, is universally approachable, and if I can do it in my little apartment kitchen, so can anyone.
So much of a country’s culture (its geography, its history, its people) is reflected in and shaped by its cuisine. Think of Ottoman influences bringing coffee to Europe, or the difference between cha/chai and tea, depending on whether the beverage reached a country by land or by sea, Thailands quest for a national cuisine, among many others.
With that in mind, I want to put a deeper focus on culture and history, using its cuisine as the entry point. Like a foodie world traveller!
Am I a recipe blog?
No. Decidedly not.
The whole point of this project is to cook dishes I’ve never tried before and experience new things to broaden my horizons. I do plenty of recipe research, often looking at several sources before choosing one to cook from and reference on my blog. Still, these recipes and the histories tied to them belong to the sources, the people whose blogs and books I draw inspiration from, not to me.
Even when properly crediting sources, it never felt quite right to post recipes as my own. Because of that, I’ll be reworking those pages over time. I will continue to link to original recipes, of course (and may even archive the original pages, as a few sources especially for more obscure countries have since disappeared).
What am I trying to communicate?
I want to share the beauty of this world and its food with all of you readers and let you join me as I learn and wonder how much of this world I truly do not yet know.
Just on the topic of food – eating customs, cooking methods, meal times, and meal components vary widely. I’ve come to realize that my European habits are far from ubiquitous, especially outside of Western and Central Europe and the U.S.
On top of that I want to share some interesting things from the countries whose cuisines I “visit” via my project, be they facts, details, internationally lesser-known stories. Additionally I’d be thrilled, if you had personal or in-depth knowledge on something, to read your comments about these countries I cook food from.
With all that in mind, I’ll be shaping future posts around this objective and to bring you a little closer to parts of the world we might not often think about. I truly hope you’ll enjoy the blog and join me in exploring this big blue ball together.
Many more countries to come!
