#27 Thailand

Hi and welcome back!

Our little culinary hot air balloon brought us back to South Asia: specifically, Thailand! 🇹🇭

Thai food is already one of the best-known Asian cuisines in the world, probably just behind Chinese, Indian, and Japanese (and maybe recently being edged out by Vietnamese). But don’t let its this fool you – Thai cuisine is a total powerhouse of flavor, texture, and color.

I was lucky to have a coworker whose mom is Thai, so she helped me choose the dishes for this one — shoutout to Sarah!

Thai cooking might require a few specialty ingredients, but the prep is surprisingly approachable. Just make your list, stop by the Asian grocer, grab the most ✨deluxe✨ mangos you can find, and get cookin’.

By the end, you’ll have a meal that’s fragrant, balanced, and bursting with flavor and that’s without even touching on classics like Pad Kra Pao or Pad Thai.

Here are the dishes I made — For my recipes I used Hot Thai Kitchen, honestly your one-stop-shop for all things Thai food on the internet and the quick rice-cooker sticky rice recipe from Hungry Huy, whose incredible recipes were my main inspiration when I made Vietnamese food:

  • Thai Grilled Chicken
  • Tom Yum Soup
  • Green Papaya Salad
  • Thai Spring Rolls
  • Mango Sticky Rice &
  • Thai Iced Tea

Trip Summary:

Honestly I’ve always been a fan of Thai food but WOW. I was blown away by how good it really is! It’s not often that recipes that I make for the first time like actually leave me so impressed. 10/10.

Thanks to the Thai food queen Hot Thai Kitchen & the ever-reliable Hungry Huy.
